Twenty years on Renton returns to Edinburgh to meet up with the old Trainspotting gang…
Best described as “Last of the Summer Wine on Smack” this is an entertaining sequel.
The cleverness of John Hodges’ script is to recognise from the outset that the film and the characters live in the shadow of Danny Boyle’s original nineties movie. The problem is the same – the sequel can’t help but live in the shadow of ‘Trainspotting’.
And sure it’s a good effort from all returning participants, but ultimately it proves an unnecessary postscript to a British cinema classic.
