A Monster Calls ⭐⭐⭐⭐

A young boy befriends a tree monster as he deals with the illness of his loving Mum.

No children’s film. This is a tough watch at times, using a fantastical device and Patrick Ness’ remarkable magic storytelling to address often unsaid truths about the trauma of long term illness.

I found this incredibly moving.  You see,  I  lost my own lovely Dad in the last year, so inevitably it stirred up some pretty raw emotions.

But this a wonderful and powerful piece of fantastical  cinema.

Recommended.
