Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie

2.5 out of 5 stars

AbFab the movie is exactly what you expect: it is longer, have more celeb cameos and of course, they have to go abroad for a bit. While I am happy to find that the trailer doesn’t show all the good one-liners, sadly the best ones have their impact lessened after repeated bombardment by the ubiquitous trailer as the element of surprise and freshness is now gone. The story isn’t half bad in itself but, much like the more recent ‘special’ episodes, is less inspired and original. In this outing, the outrageousness (and the narrative) runs out of steam as we reach a rushed and nonsensical ending which is less than satisfying, especially when viewed during a sober Monday matinee. Saunders and Lumley are fabulous as always, so the film is mainly left to coast on their charming, shameless and selfless performances. You’ll miss nothing if you catch it when it’s on the telly next Christmas.
