Some years ago I endured a production of Antony & Cleopatra with Alan Rickman and Helen Mirren in the titular roles. What should have been so good was so bad, with La Mirren playing Cleo as a screechy harpie and AR’s Tony so laid back has was almost horizontal! Since then, both actors have redeemed themselves many times over in my eyes, and never more so than in this taut, well-paced thriller.
This examination of the ethics and legitimacy of drone warfare unfolds in real time. Although wordy, it deftly steers clear of being preachy, evenly presenting the argument for and against the contested drone attack at the centre of the film. Solid performances from the ensemble cast and a touching dedication to Alan Rickman in the closing credits. A fine film to go out on sir!
