Eddie The Eagle

2.5 out of 5 stars

Inoffensive but predictable and formulaic Britcom based on real life Winter Olympics participant Eddie Edwards, the story straddles fact and fiction (factional?) and would have been quite forgettable if not for Dexter Fletcher’s efficient and economical directing and, here’s the only surprise of the film, a likeable and pleasing performance by Taron Egerton who somehow manages to make a piece of history so cringingly cheesy that few would want to revisit, watchable and almost inspiring here
