Two stars out of five.
An obligatory viewing of Warner Bros. launch of the next 1,001 DC movies, this is a muddy film – not just the visuals, but plot wise as well.
The cast generally work hard – but Jesse Eisenberg literally kills the movie with the worst performance as a super-villain since Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr Freeze.
Shame as Ben Afleck and Gal Gadot are great and Henry Cavill tries his best in what is – for me – a very depressing take on the Superman character.
And that’s the problem. The film lacks cohesive plotting, warmth and humour.
Time to go home and watch Richard Donner’s 1978 classic. One blast of John Williams’ wonderful Superman theme and I’m smiling.
Back then I really cared a man could fly.
The problem with Zach Snyders’ take on this superhero legend, is that I just didn’t.
