2.5 out of 5 stars (In-Flight movie #8)
Engine problems delaying my 2hr flight by an extra 3.5hrs mean that I get to watch Seth Rogan and co.’s loose update of A Christmas Carol… in April. So taking the Christmas cheer and goodwill out of the equation, this occasionally funny film is not as awful as it could’ve been but neither is it as subversive as or different from other Christmas films made in the last decade or so. There are some obvious efforts made here to break the mould: but for every convention it deviates from, there is always another scene round the corner that conforms and plays safely by the book. Honourable mention must be made to Michael Shannon who shines brightest as dealer Mr. Green and made me chuckled the most. Best watched with an eggnog and a joint.
