Triple 9

3 out of 5 stars

Solidly directed cop-heist drama with enough tension to sustain the almost 2hrs duration, even though the script feels a little derivative – I just can’t shake the feeling that I have seen this before – and the ending is a tad too neat and tidy for a film that strives so hard to be dirty and gritty. However, I am impressed that they have assembled a good looking and immensely watchable bunch of actors, and though no one is breaking a sweat playing their parts (except maybe Winslet’s dialect coach), there is enough greyness in the casting to distract and mislead as to who’s good and who’s bad – adding to the suspense and elevating it (just) above your average cops ‘n robbers pantomime.
