The Danish Girl

2.5 out of 5 stars

As exquisitely made and elegantly mounted as this film is, the prettiness cannot hide a rather safe and unexciting script. To make matters worse, the trailer literally gave away every single plot point (https://subtitledfriends.wordpress.com/2015/11/18/the-danish-girl-trailer/) in a film that is already predictable and fairly toothless. In the end it is his wife who comes out most sympathetic as a result of Alicia Vikander’s nuanced performance. Eddie Redmayne, with his delicate features, is well cast but the emphasis is so much on his hands they should be qualified separately for a nomination in the awards season coming up.
