A young mother and her child are locked up in a room with no windows but only a skylight. We soon found out why they are there and they hatch a plan to escape. Part tense thriller and part PTSD the movie, the most intriguing aspect of this emotional film, however, is that it was told all through the child’s point of view. This fresh approach manages to find the humanity and even the humour in the cruel and inhuman situation they found themselves in. A pair of great performances by Brie Larson and the very natural Jacob Tremblay is simply the icing on the cake.
