Grandma

Lily Tomlin plays the titular grandmother, an expletives friendly new-agey lesbian, revisiting people in her life to find money for her granddaughter’s abortion and in so doing, wrung out their backstories and the relationships they have with each other. Smartly written and simply made, eschewing anything that would make the stories too fanciful or contrived, this is a thoughtful and moving film, small in scale but big in heart. Needless to say, Tomlin alone was worth the price of admission already.
